Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland are the new AEW World Tag Team Champions after a shocking title change on the latest episode of Dynamite. Swerve in our Glory defeated the Young Bucks and Team Taz in a stunning main event after Strickland pinned Ricky Starks.

After the match, fans noticed some inconsistency with the finish as the legal men were not involved in the decisive pinfall. Tony Khan rubbished any suggestions that the finish was botched as he tweeted that the referee’s decision is final.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Lee and Swerve winning was always the plan despite the teased break up over the past few weeks.

“The plan was always to get the belts on Lee & Strickland with the teased break-up spots to make it a surprise. When Jeff Hardy had his issue and the Young Bucks got the tag titles, necessary since it was the Christian turn on Jungle Boy plan, they were set to immediately lose to Lee & Strickland.”

The result was definitely a surprise, as it seemed like Swerve and Lee would be at crossroads after the former eliminated the former from the Royal Rampage. But now, Swerve has become the quickest star to win a title from his debut, after signing with AEW at Revolution earlier this year.
