Swerve Strickland Praises Thekla: She Has It

Swerve Strickland has high praise for the former AEW Women’s World Champion.

Thekla has made a huge impact on AEW’s women’s division since debuting last year. Alongside marquee matches against stars such as Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter, and most recently Willow Nightingale, she has quickly become one of the division’s most prominent personalities through her unique presence and character work.

This was further highlighted on the latest episode of Marking Out With MVP and Dwayne Swayze, where several AEW roster members were asked about their fellow talent. When Swerve Strickland was asked about Thekla, he had nothing but praise for the AEW star.

“On her debut, the entrance alone captivated me and I was like, ‘That’s a star.’ She has it and she’s comfortable with it, and she knows who she is. It’s not something the machine can put together to crop together like, ‘This is who you are.’ This is just naturally who she is. Someone like that is just bound to succeed.”

Many would agree with that assessment, as fans across the internet have praised Thekla for bringing a unique presence to AEW’s women’s division. During her reign as AEW Women’s Champion, she consistently stood out whenever she appeared on camera or grabbed a microphone, leaving fans wanting to see more.

The connection fans have developed with Thekla was evident following AEW Redemption, with many feeling that Willow Nightingale’s victory prevented “The Toxic Spider” from entering All In: London as champion. While her Wembley plans remain unclear, it is possible that Thekla continues her ongoing conflict with STARDOM heading into the event. She has repeatedly targeted the promotion since Forbidden Door, raising the possibility that another attempt could be made to put Thekla in her place.

After defeating Thekla to win the AEW Women’s World Championship at AEW Redemption on July 26, Willow Nightingale became All Elite Wrestling’s first-ever female Grand Slam Champion, an achievement she recently reflected on. You can read more about that here.
