Willow Nightingale Reflects On Becoming AEW’s First Women’s Grand Slam Champion
Willow Nightingale has described the past year with AEW as “surreal”.
Without a doubt, Willow Nightingale has established herself as one of All Elite Wrestling’s top babyfaces. Beloved by fans and consistently delivering in the ring, Nightingale reached another career milestone at AEW Redemption on July 26 by defeating Thekla to win the AEW Women’s World Championship. The victory also made her the first woman in company history to complete the AEW Women’s Grand Slam, having now held every women’s championship in AEW.
Speaking during the AEW Redemption post-show media scrum, Nightingale reflected on what becoming the inaugural AEW Women’s Grand Slam Champion means to her.
“Fascinating thing about this too is that has all been accomplished within this year. I won the TBS Title two years ago for the first time, but I held the Tag and TBS earlier this year. Now this, the World Title. It’s really a whirlwind. I love AEW because, now, it feels a lot more like we’ve got our legs, we’re more established. But it still feels so exciting and new. Like this is the beginning of something so much more. In my head, I’m like, ‘This is gonna go on and on and this is still like we’re just getting started.’ And to be somebody who is kind of helping lay down that foundation, and hitting these marks and achievements at such a crazy, awesome time… I’m beside myself. Just… surreal. Very, very surreal in the best way possible.”

Nightingale’s title victory has been widely celebrated by fans, but her reign will face an immediate test. At AEW All In: London, she is set to defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Mercedes Moné in what will be the latest chapter of one of the company’s biggest rivalries.
The pair have previously met twice in AEW, with both matches contested for the TBS Championship, and enter Wembley with a 1-1 record against one another. As a result, the clash at All In will serve as the rubber match between the two rivals.
Whether Willow Nightingale can continue her remarkable run or Mercedes Moné can finally capture the AEW Women’s World Championship remains to be seen. Their long-awaited rubber match is set to take place at AEW All In: London on August 30, where one of the company’s biggest rivalries will reach its latest chapter.
