Syuri To Defend IWGP Women’s Championship Against CMLL’s Kira At Lucha Kingdom
An IWGP Women’s Title defence is set for next month’s Lucha Kingdom.
IWGP Women’s Champion, Syuri, will defend her title against CMLL’s Kira at Lucha Kingdom on November 16 from Arena Mexico. This will be the first time the title has been defended in Mexico, and is currently the only singles title match announced for the NJPW and CMLL super show.
For those of you not in the know, the IWGP Women’s Championship is a sanctioned women’s belt for New Japan Pro Wrestling, which is curious because there are no signed women’s wrestlers in the company itself. Syuri, as most previous title holders have been since the title was introduced in 2022, is currently signed with STARDOM, which was their sister promotion up until New Japan’s sale earlier this year. Even after the change in ownership, though, STARDOM has kept a close relationship with the lion mark.
Syuri is currently the only woman who has ever held the IWGP Women’s Championship twice, having beaten Sareee for the title at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2025, 367 days ago as of writing.
Kira is closing in on her 15th anniversary in the squared circle and has been a regular for CMLL since 2023. Up until last month, she and her longtime tag team partner Skadi were the Mexican National Women’s Tag Team Champions. She has wrestled two matches in Japan during her career, including a trios win back in February against a trio made up of wrestlers from the God’s Eye stable, which is led by Syuri.
According to Cagematch, Kira has only been in three singles championship matches, which is fewer than the number of title matches Syuri has had during her current right as IWGP Women’s Champion. Suffice to say, there is a distinct gap of experience.
This match is one of six matches that have been announced so far for November 16. Here is the full card:
