At this past Sunday’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, FTR captured the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships in a three way bout that also featured Jeff Cobb & Great O-Khan and Roppongi Vice. The match also saw FTR put their ROH Tag Team Championships on the line, with the result meaning that the duo now hold three major tag-team titles, as they also hold the AAA Tag Team Championships.

A new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now revealed, however, that the original plan for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships was for the Young Bucks to capture the gold, in a bout that would’ve saw the Jackson brothers also wager their recently captured AEW Tag Team Championships.

Meltzer then revealed that the the Bucks were in favour of the change, with a potential bout between the two teams now having four major tag titles on the line.

“Gedo’s original idea was for the Young Bucks to win the IWGP tag titles on the show and make it AEW vs. IWGP tag titles. It was changed, and the Young Bucks were on board with that change with the idea that it’s a cool story for FTR to have the IWGP, ROH and AAA tag titles.”

We certainly can’t wait for the Young Bucks and FTR to square off once again, and with the wealth of tag gold now held between both teams, the match is sure to go down as one of the greatest tag-team matches of the modern era.
