Last night’s AEW Dynamite saw Mark Briscoe taking on Jay Lethal in a match honoring the late, great Jay Briscoe just over a week after the ROH World Tag Team Champion’s tragic passing. The company were also able to play an emotional video package celebrating the life of Jamin ‘Jay Briscoe’ Pugh, and the show closed with the locker room emptying out to pay their respects to the Ring of Honor legend.

Throughout the week, it had been noted that Warner Bros Discovery’s policy towards The Briscoes prevented AEW from honouring him on Dynamite last week, however, this week saw a change in the policy after fan backlash, with Dave Meltzer revealing on the Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW President Tony Khan played a crucial role in getting the company to change their minds.

“The whole thing is you have to credit that one to Tony Khan. He pushed and pushed. He pushed really hard on this one and got them to change their minds. They were pretty dead set against it.”

-Dave Meltzer

Mark Briscoe defeated Jay Lethal in the main event of last night’s AEW Dynamite following an emotional performance from both men, before Mark delivered a heartfelt message to his brother Jay.

As always, the thoughts of everyone here at WrestlePurists are with the friends and family of Jay Briscoe at this difficult time.
