Tony Khan Says AEW Must Be “Very Considerate” With New Signings
Tony Khan believes All Elite Wrestling must be selective with new signings.
Currently, several high-profile free agents are available across the wrestling industry, while others, including Austin Creed and Kofi Kingston, are expected to become available in the near future. Speculation continues to link a number of those names with AEW, with one report even claiming that “seven names” are waiting in the wings to join the promotion.
Addressing AEW’s approach to potential signings, company President Tony Khan spoke on Roar Around The Ring about what goes into bringing new talent to the promotion.
“I think that if you look at how many great wrestlers there are in AEW, across Dynamite and Collision, these have so many great stars wrestling every week. Different wrestlers lined up fighting for top spots. So there’s a lot of competition in AEW right now, so we have to be very considerate about who we sign and about who comes in to compete because right now, there’s already so many great wrestlers competing for these spots on TV and on pay-per-views.”

At first glance, Khan’s comments could be viewed as a standard non-committal response, offering little indication of who AEW may be targeting next. However, the promotion has a history of making major signings with little hesitation, producing mixed results over the years. The company’s high-profile additions have all generated varying levels of success, leading some fans to call for a more measured approach to future acquisitions.
To that end, Khan has adopted more of a “quality over quantity” approach to signings in recent years, a strategy that has largely paid off. Additions such as “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, Mina Shirakawa, Alex Windsor, and the re-signing of Andrade El Idolo have further strengthened a roster that many consider to be one of the most talented ever assembled.
There will undoubtedly be more signings in the future, but only when Tony Khan believes the timing is right. Despite speculation surrounding potential debuts on last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, none came to fruition. However, with AEW Collision set to take place tonight in Detroit, Michigan, fans will once again be watching closely to see whether a certain tag team finally arrives in the promotion.
