In an interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport ahead of this Saturday’s Clash at the Castle PPV Triple H discussed his recent takeover of WWE from former WWE chairman Vince McMahon.
In the hour long interview, Triple H reflected upon his father-in-law’s departure from the company, and his own newly found role as WWE chairman. When asked if Vince gave him any advice on his takeover of the company Triple H said:
“He did. In some manor, I think for both of us, It’s a tough situation for him. It’s even hard for me picture now that he’s not in the equation, and he’s not, in any way shape or form. But it’s hard to, sort of hard to think about. That he’s not there. And I think in that moment, hard for him to think about somebody doing what he’s done for 50 years or whatever successfully better than anybody in the world. So yeah, there was definitely that moment, definitely giving me advice, but I also think in some manor most of that advice was centred around like ‘This is what you have been sitting next to me learning how to do for 25 years or whatever that is and you got this’ just be confident in your decision making, listen to people, be open to ideas, be collaborative with other people, things like that, you know. That were just wonderful advice.”

When asked if Vince McMahon had any current involvement within WWE, Triple H replied:
“No, and one of the things that he, I don’t wanna say outright said, but alluded to me was, ‘you’re going to do things. You cannot think about how would do things. You have to think about what you want to do and how you feel like its best for the product. I might not like it but I understand why you’re going to do the things you are going to do. You have to do what you feel is right’.”

Triple H went on to speak about the responsibility of his decision-making as the new head of the company.
“We use the term all the time in the business ‘Chocolate and Vanilla’. I want chocolate, you want vanilla, one of us has to pick a flavour. He would always pick the flavour. Now its my turn to pick the flavour its all good, its all ice cream. But its my time to pick the flavour, and I have to be confident in those decisions.”

In his short time as chairman of the company, Triple H has already brought back some familiar faces to the WWE locker room and has begun teasing the return of more, which can be found in the rest of the interview here.
