Wardlow has been off AEW TV since the December 28 ‘New Year’s Smash’ edition of AEW Dynamite. During his unsuccessful attempt to win back the TNT Championship, it was very clearly worked into the match that Wardlow was suffering with a leg injury. Samoa Joe even attacked Wardlow post-match and cut off part of his hair.
Now, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer has made it clear that the injury Wardlow was selling in the December 28 main event was more real than it appeared. Meltzer states that Wardlow was written off of TV so he could recover from his injury, while suggesting that it isn’t too serious.
“When Wardlow did the match where Samoa Joe took out his leg, the reason he hasn’t been back for revenge and dropped the TNT title is due to an injury issue. The stuff with Joe was done to set up his taking time off. The injury is not believed to be one that will keep him out of action for a long time”

As of writing, it’s unclear how much longer the 35-year-old will be out of action for, with his injury keeping him away from the ring for three weeks thus far. We wish Wardlow a speedy recovery and will update you on any news as we hear more.
