Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw the recently crowned AEW World Champion MJF turn on William Regal, just over a week after the manager betrayed his Blackpool Combat Club stablemates by handing the new champion brass knuckles during his title match with Jon Moxley, allowing his to pick up the win.

Prior to last night’s Dynamite, speculation had been rampant regarding Regal’s future, with WWE believed to be interested in bringing him back to the company. PWInsider have now provided an update on Regal following him seemingly being written off AEW TV, revealing that he is believed to be WWE-bound.

“All signs are that William Regal, 54, will be World Wrestling Entertainment-bound shortly. Although we have heard nothing official from the company, there have been rumblings within WWE of late about Regal returning in a backstage role. That would mean Regal would be exiting AEW, where it certainly appeared that he was written out of storylines last night on Dynamite, having been attacked by AEW Champion MJF.”

Regal had previously served as the General Manager of NXT, as well as WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting prior to his release earlier this year. Regal then made his way to AEW in March, playing off his real life relations with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley in order to unite the former rivals as the Blackpool Combat Club, eventually welcoming Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta into their ranks.

Following long-time WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon’s retirement earlier this year, and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque’s subsequent appointment as both the Head of Talent Relations and Head of Creative, a number of previously released talents and backstage officials have returned to the company, with William Regal now appearing likely to be the next to make a comeback.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on this developing situation as soon as we hear more.
