Since returning to the company as the Head of Talent Relations and Head of Creative, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has ushered in the return of many previously released Superstars that were a highlight on NXT during his time leading the brand, including the likes of Johnny Gargano, Karrion Kross, Dakota Kai, and many more.

It now appears as though the company are weighing up yet another re-hiring, as Fightful Select are reporting that WWE are currently discussing a possible return for former NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain.

Fightful Select has learned that Akam and Rezar, collectively known as the Authors of Pain or AOP, have been discussed for a potential return to the WWE. Both were an integral part of the NXT Black and Gold brand before being called up to WWE Raw.

Additionally, Fightful noted that the company have also discussed bringing Paul Ellering back to the company as part of the act. Ellering originally managed the duo in NXT, however, he was abandoned on the main roster, with rumours that have since been dispelled by Ellering himself circulating that it was down to a lack of wanting to travel.

Since being released by WWE in 2020, the duo have remained inactive, although they did attempt an ill-fated comeback under the name ‘The Legion of Pain’, a name they confirmed that Ellering gave them the blessing to use, starting up the Wrestlinv Entertainment Series promotion that ultimately never got past the stage of holding their first event.

Rezar, 28, previously told promoters that he was “retired” and “wasn’t a wrestler anymore”, however with attempts having been made to start their own promotion, it’s likely that their minds could be changed should the right offer come to the table.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the prospect of The Authors of Pain returning to WWE as soon as we hear more.
