WWE NXT And AEW Dynamite Both Tout Victories In Tuesday’s Renewed Clash

AEW and NXT clashed once more this past Tuesday, and both sides were apparently happy with what happened in certain contexts.
In terms of raw TV ratings, NXT drew 532,000 viewers, while AEW drew 495,000. It should also be noted that since this was a pre-taped show in Paris, Grand Slam: France did not have an overrun to potentially skew the numbers. As Fightful previously reported, while NXT won the ratings battle on TV, AEW won the key 18.49 demo, drawing a .11 to NXT’s .10. Overall, though, WWE came out on top on October 6.
In a new report from Fightful Select, it was noted that both sides took the night as a victory.
“Regarding the AEW viewership on Tuesday night, they were at least happy with the increase over their pre-emption last year. WWE were happy that they won head to head viewership on television, and internally touted the victory.”

Context absolutely matters when it comes to ratings these days, and for different reasons. As Dave Meltzer has revealed multiple times in the past, NXT’s numbers are counting 100% of watchers due to it being on the CW. Meanwhile, AEW on TBS is more of an estimate Another key element to this mix is HBO Max, which AEW streams on. The numbers there are not counted for TV ratings, making it harder to know exactly how many viewers this accounts for.
Of course, ratings have been a key form of discourse among wrestling fans for years, and it’s not likely to end. However, the promotions themselves know that these ratings only matter so much, and that any number of factors can affect how a single show is viewed or not viewed. When the next round of shows arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday, the numbers for both series are likely to be much higher than they were this past Tuesday.
