A top free agent is reportedly on WWE’s radar.

Last month, Fightful Select reported that multiple talents within New Japan Pro Wrestling were working for the promotion without a contract, with the likes of David Finlay and Kevin Knight amongst those mentioned.

Another name that was reported to technically be a free agent was Jeff Cobb, and according to the latest report from Fightful Select, WWE have recently had their eye on Cobb.

“Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned from a number of sources that WWE has had their eye on Jeff Cobb of late.”

The report later added that one source indicated that Cobb actually showed up on WWE’s internal roster this week, although Fightful were unable to confirm that this is the case as of yet.

After suffering a defeat last month, Cobb suggested that “Maybe it’s time to take my bags and go somewhere else. I don’t know. I don’t know.”, and with this latest report, it certainly seems as though that change in scenery could be on the horizon.

Regarding any potential AEW interest, Fightful Select noted that sources within the company told them he wasn’t expected to join the promotion.

Jeff Cobb has featured for New Japan Pro Wrestling since 2017, where he is a former NEVER Openweight Champion, NJPW World Television Champion, and two-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with fellow United Empire member Great O-Khan.

Many fans will also remember his stint as Matanza Cueto in Lucha Underground between 2014 and 2018, where he captured the Lucha Underground Championship in his first match for the promotion, dethroning another talent linked to joining WWE in Fenix.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of Jeff Cobb as soon as we hear more.
