Tony Khan Admits To ‘Keeping An Eye’ On Free Agent Market
Tony Khan is aware of the recent WWE releases hitting the free agent market.
Several wrestlers officially became free agents yesterday after being released by WWE in late April. Many fans are now speculating about where they could end up next, with All Elite Wrestling considered by some to be a potential landing spot for members of that group.
During the AEW Redemption Media Call, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about the current free agent market and confirmed that he is keeping a close eye on the available talent.
“There are a lot of great free agents in wrestling, and particularly right now, there’s a lot of people coming out of contracts. It’s no secret that a lot of very talented wrestlers were released recently from their contracts, and it has put more people on the market, absolutely. And it’s something that I am keeping an eye on because I’m very cognizant that there’s a lot of really talented people that just got fired or cut or released, and I am keeping an eye on that. So it’s certainly a very interesting time in pro wrestling and an exciting time for AEW.”

Naturally, Tony Khan was not going to reveal which free agents he is interested in signing, or whether any have already agreed to join AEW, as doing so would spoil any potential surprises. However, there has already been plenty of speculation among fans over which recently available stars could end up in the promotion.
The strongest speculation centres around the Motor City Machine Guns, with many fans expecting the duo to debut in AEW by the end of next week. The belief has been fuelled by AEW’s upcoming two-night television tapings in Detroit, Michigan, the hometown of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin.
Another name frequently linked with AEW is Kairi Sane, with many fans keen to see the former WWE star join the promotion and strengthen its women’s division. That said, others would also be happy to see her continue wrestling exclusively in Japan, where she appeared to be at her happiest.
Shortly after WWE’s wave of releases in late April, The New Day departed the company by mutual consent. More recently, Austin Creed and Kenny Omega teased discussing Creed’s departure during an online interaction, fuelling ongoing speculation that he and Kofi Kingston could be AEW-bound.
