Ricochet admits fighting Will Ospreay on the “Tribute to PAC” AEW Dynamite helped him get through the day.

All Elite Wrestling has had to do three different tribute shows to those within their ranks over the last few months, but the tribute to Ben Satterley, AKA PAC, was the hardest due to him wrestling for AEW just a day before he died. Then, they had to come together to pay tribute to him, with one of the big matches of that card being Will Ospreay vs. Ricochet.

In a chat with SI Wrestling, Ricochet reflected on what that match meant to him during his grieving process.

“Honestly, the match kind of helps you. The match helps the day go by, because without having to think about your match, you’re stuck thinking about sad times, basically. At least for me specifically, having something to put my mind toward helped. You don’t turn off your emotions, but you have to focus on this, or otherwise you could get hurt. Having something like that to focus on for the day kind of helped. It’s kind of criminal how quickly he (Will Ospreay) and I got all that together. It’s kind of criminal how quickly we were like, ‘Oh yeah, okay, well, I guess that’s it. I’ll see you later.’ Because we work so well together, and we just knew Ben so well. It was about going out there and putting on for the people we knew were going to be there and appreciate it.”

One thing that’s for sure is that the night weighed heavy on those attending, competing, and watching around the world. In fact, Will Ospreay not long after the event called his bout with Ricochet one of the most difficult of his life. You can read more about that here.

During the match, Will Ospreay hit a Black Arrow in what was the perfect tribute to PAC, and he’d later revealed the amount of practice it took to be able to perform a move he hadn’t nailed in eight years. You can read more about that here.

The match was one of many fitting tributes to “The Bastard” during the September 30 episode of Dynamite. Alongside taped interviews which saw wrestlers emotionally recalling their favourite memories of PAC, the Death Riders all competed, including an emotional 10-man tag featuring Bryan Danielson to end the night.

The tribute show itself was rated by fans as one of the greatest AEW show ever, showing just how much effort they put into it, and how well the wrestlers were able to keep it together to honour their friend.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Will Ospreay and Ricochet’s match on the PAC tribute show as soon as we hear more.
