We now know the release date for AEW Fight Forever.

On November 10th, 2020, at the AEW Games 1.0 Special Event, Kenny Omega officially revealed that AEW Fight Forever, the company’s first-ever console video game, was in the works. Since then, fans of AEW have been treated to sporadic teases and roster reveals, although the game’s release date has remained a mystery.

We now appear to have our answer, as Fightful Select are reporting that AEW Fight Forever is set to be released on June 27th, confirming an earlier report from Mike Straw of Insider Gaming.

“After years of speculation, and a few moved tentatively planned release dates, Fightful Select has learned that as of today, the AEW Fight Forever release date is scheduled for June 27. Mike Straw accurately reported recently that he heard the date would be around the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show. Fightful has heard from several retailers that were told a “late June” release, before confirming June 27.”

Whilst the working plan was for Yuke’s title to be a one-off with constant update, the report also reveals that AEW hold the rights to the engine, and thus a future game release with it is possible.

Regarding the gameplay, sources that spoke to Fightful told them it plays very smoothly, with a stylistic resemblance to WWF No Mercy. It was also noted, however, that there are some limitations with the create-a-wrestler feature and that there weren’t plans for a community creations similar to that of the WWE 2K games that they heard of last time they asked.

Fightful ended the report by revealing that an official announcement is expected over the next week, and thus as always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AEW Fight Forever as soon as we hear more.
