AEW Grand Slam: Mexico Draws Strong TV Gate

AEW Grand Slam: Mexico was a hit, including at the live gate.

This year marked All Elite Wrestling’s second visit to Arena México, the “Cathedral of Lucha Libre”. The company packed a near three-hour show with wrestling and major moments, while the Arena México crowd received plenty of praise online for its volume and engagement.

The show’s strong turnout was also reflected financially, with Dave Meltzer noting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the show had one of the largest TV gates in the company’s history.

“The live gate at Grand Slam Mexico was well over $600,000, which would make it among the largest for a television taping in company history. WWE, with its higher ticker prices, routinely beats that number and will for the shows and its tour in September. But for AEW, that’s a great number. It was a sellout, and the paid attendance closed in on 13,000, which indicates once again the legitimacy of the 13,200 number at Arena Mexico vs. 16,448, which is the official government listed attendance for the building.”

Given the success of Grand Slam: Mexico and the praise the show received from fans and critics online, it seems likely that AEW will return to Arena México for a third time in 2027.
