AJ Styles Believes Chelsea Green Will Soon Wrestle In A Protective Mask After Orbital Bone Injury

Since being reintroduced to WWE back in January 2023, Chelsea Green has gradually become a fan favourite, and management have certainly taken notice. The 35-year-old received her flowers when she became the WWE Interim Women’s Champion by defeating Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend in a multi-woman ladder match. Sadly, though, “The Hot Mess” suffered a setback the next week on SmackDown, when she suffered a broken orbital bone in a tag team bout on August 7. Now, a WWE Hall of Famer has weighed in on what might be next for her.
Speaking on The AJ Styles Show, AJ Styles says he spoke with Chelsea Green after her injury, saying he believes she’ll wrestle in a mask soon.
“They’re gonna throw a mask on her, I’m sure of it. I actually did get to see her. She came down to the trainers. I believe she lives in Florida. I saw her with the trainers at the Performance Centre. She’s doing okay. She’s not mad about the situation. It is what it is. She said she has had some back luck”

It was announced on the August 14 episode of SmackDown by General Manager Nick Aldis that Chelsea would not be stripped of her title. Aldis gave her 30 days to get medically cleared to wrestle so she could defend her championship. If Chelsea does wrestle in a mask as AJ Styles suggests, this would certainly provide her with some protection and help her injuries heal, whilst still being able to wrestle. Plus, back in 1995, The Undertaker also suffered an orbital bone injury and wore a mask whilst wrestling to assist with the recovery.
The current Interim WWE Women’s Champion also suffered an injury to her nose back in 2025 during a Women’s United States Championship match against Zelina Vega. Although Green has had some setbacks in her career, she remains determined not to let this injury derail her momentum, particularly after what was arguably the biggest win of her career at the start of this month.
Styles, who retired from in-ring competition back in January, has been working at the WWE Performance Center as a temporary coach of late, where he ran into Green. Not only that, “The Phenomenal One” has picked up work as a producer, having helped to together a title match on a recent NXT. You can read more about that here.
As always we will aim to bring you the latest updates on Chelsea Green’s injury as soon as we hear more.
