Austin Creed Reveals The New Level Didn’t Speak To Other Promotions Before Joining AEW
Austin Creed and Kofi only had their eyes on joining AEW after leaving WWE.
The New Level have made headlines since arriving in All Elite Wrestling, with their successful debut seeing them capture the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Swerve Strickland before firmly inserting themselves into the AEW World Tag Team Championship picture.
Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show, The New Level opened up about how they ended up joining All Elite Wrestling, with Austin Creed revealing that they only had eyes on a move to AEW due to its strong tag team division.
“We talked to AEW. Yeah [it was only them]. We have a lot of friends over there, a lot of good people who said a lot of good things about it. But again, I know we probably sound like broken records to go back to the idea of having such a robust tag division and that being what our real focus is in this. It just made a lot of sense to us because watching those matches, watching the stories they get to tell, nobody is really doing it like that for tag team wrestling. So it really just makes a lot of sense for us in that respect. I genuinely believe that this is the best tag team division, possibly ever. That shot at All In of all the tag teams in the ring, that’s some of the greatest tag teams, I think, of our generation. So possibly when we’re all done, maybe of all time. And when are we going to get a chance to do something like that again? When has anyone ever done that in actuality?”

That “shot at All In” was a reference to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage sharing the ring with The Young Bucks following their match, alongside the Motor City Machine Guns, FTR, and The New Level. All of those teams have, at one point or another, been labelled one of the “greatest tag teams” in professional wrestling.
That doesn’t even account for the other established tag teams that could have been included in the mix, such as Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly, Top Flight, El Sky Team, Brodido, and others. AEW has placed a significant emphasis on tag team wrestling since its launch, and the depth of the division continues to provide a wide range of potential match-ups.
With The New Level and the Motor City Machine Guns both joining the division within the past month, that pool of possibilities has grown further, including the potential for some of these teams to meet in a major PPV match in the future.
