A promo segment was reportedly changed during this week’s AEW Dynamite.

This past Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite saw the AEW World Champion MJF slap a microphone out of Renee Paquette’s hand during a backstage interview following a segment involving the other pillars, although a new report has now revealed that this backstage segment wasn’t the original plan.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now revealed that originally, the plan was for Britt Baker to be involved in a backstage segment with the four pillars where she would announce Adam Cole’s intent to be the next challenger for the AEW World Championship, however plans were ultimately changed to the MJF/Renee segment.

“The segment where MJF slapped the mic out of Renee Paquette’s hands was not the original plan. There was a promo segment involving everyone in the match and Britt Baker was involved. It ended with Baker saying that even if he wins, he’s not going to hold the title long Bay Bay. The idea is that Cole gets the next big title chase against whoever wins the match. But there was something about it that was deemed not good and instead of doing it again, they changed to what they did.”

MJF is set to defend the AEW World Championship on May 28th at the Double or Nothing PPV event against his fellow pillars Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, and Jack Perry, whilst Adam Cole is yet to have a match confirmed for the show, although its likely he’ll be involved with Chris Jericho in some capacity.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future plans for MJF’s AEW World Championship reign as soon as we hear more.
