Randy Orton has been on one of the most enjoyable runs of his WWE career as part of RK-Bro alongside Riddle. However, a back injury has forced the Apex Predator to take a lengthy break from in-ring action.

Dave Meltzer had an update on Orton in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer confirming a Fightful Select Report, noted that the 14-time world champion might need back surgery. He added that he was scheduled to face Roman Reigns at Summerslam this year. He concluded by saying the current number one contender Riddle is not planned as the Tribal Chief’s opponent for now.

“Orton may need back surgery and those with knowledge of the situation said that the planned Reigns vs. Orton main event for 7/30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville is in jeopardy. There is a backup plan for Reigns but we were told at press time the plan was not Riddle.”

Wrestling in general is going through a grim period at the moment. Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, CM Punk and Bryan Danielson are some of the major stars that are out of action due to injuries. It will be interesting to see how the WWE creative comes out of this situation in the coming weeks.
