It’s fair to say that CM Punk is a polarising figure in the world of wrestling. The star hasn’t been seen in over seven months since his controversial statements directed at Hangman Page, Colt Cabana and The Elite during All Out’s post-show media scrum. Yet, the 44-year-old is now linked with a return to AEW and, with the company having announced a show in Chicago on June 21, the rumours of his comeback are only growing stronger.

With it looking likely that we will see the former AEW World Champion back in the company, many will rightly wonder what the reaction will be backstage to his arrival after so long away. In particular, given their physical altercation last September, many will be interested to know how The Elite feel about the return of Punk.

Now, in the Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer has revealed that the tension involving Punk backstage at AEW is yet to be resolved, he also noted that the company’s reported new Saturday show could serve as a home for Punk if separation from specific members of the roster is required.

“A Punk return is largely expected. It’s a tenuous situation because the dressing room issues involving him have not been settled at all at press time. The working idea was that the Saturday show would star Punk and that they would split crews to a large degree.”

It appears as if June 21 is the most likely date for CM Punk to make his triumphant return to AEW. Many are hoping to see him work with The Elite, specifically teaming with FTR in a six-man tag, but whether this comes to be remains to be seen.

As always, we’ll aim to update you on CM Punk and his potential return to AEW as we hear more.
