We have an update on Dakota Kai’s injury status following her recent absence.

This past Friday’s episode of Smackdown saw Michael Cole announce a fatal four-way match for the now vacant WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Former champions Damage CTRL are set to be involved, although IYO SKY will instead be teaming with Bayley, prompting many to question the injury status of Dakota Kai.

Fightful Select recently provided an insight into the reasoning behind Kai’s absence, noting that she has indeed sustained an injury, with said injury being sustained during the same bout that saw Liv Morgan sidelined, although it appears as though Dakota is likely to be out of action for a lengthier period of time.

“For those asking about Dakota Kai, she did actually sustain an injury in the same tag team title match that Liv Morgan got hurt in. Ahead of the announcement, we had heard the injury appeared worse than Morgan’s, as outlined in Bayley’s line on Smackdown.”

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has now provided an update on Dakota Kai’s injury, revealing that it’s been confirmed as a torn ACL. Meltzer also confirmed Fightful Select’s report about the injury being sustained during a tag team bout on the May 12th edition of Smackdown, with the current belief being that Kai picked up the injury whilst trying to protect the already injured Morgan.

“Dakota Kai’s injury was confirmed as a torn ACL. The injury took place in the same match on May 12 that Liv Morgan was injured in with Raquel Rodriguez & Morgan vs. Kai & Bayley for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. The word was that she was injured after Morgan suffered her shoulder injury and the knee injury came in a spot where she knew Morgan was hurt and was trying to protect her.

Kai is scheduled for surgery tomorrow.”

The aforementioned fatal four-way for the vacant WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships is set to take place in two weeks’ time on Raw and will feature Bayley & IYO SKY, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Sonya Deville & Cheslea Green, and Raquel Rodriguez and a mystery partner.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on both Dakota Kai and Liv Morgan’s injury statuses, and we wish them all the best in their recovery.
