MJF Discusses Counterprogramming, Calls Out WWE Radio

MJF addresses counterprogramming and calls out WWE Radio.

All Elite Wrestling is just days away from its biggest pay-per-view of the year, though the show isn’t free from counterprogramming, with WWE holding one of its NXT shows at around the same time. Plus, in September, All Out will return to Chicago, happening on that same day and in that same city that WWE will hold its Worlds Collide event. The promotional tactic nothing new to fans in the modern day, and a former AEW World Champion has now addressed the counterprogramming and his thoughts on WWE Radio.

Appearing on Sports Media With Richard Deitsch, MJF said he understands counterprogramming, but calls out WWE Radio for suggesting nothing has changed with their approach.

“Do I think it’s ridiculous that [WWE] are afraid of us usurping them? Yeah, a little bit. Do I think it’s a little fucking funny that you’re running a show in Chicago the exact the same time we’re running a show in Chicago? Yeah, a little bit, but as I’ve stated before, it makes sense. I understand it. It’s a business tactic. I’m not mad at it, but the last thing you’re going to do is spit in my fucking face and tell me it’s raining,”

The line about WWE radio echoes what many people online have said since WWE bought the SiriusXM channel that was dedicated to wrestling. At the time, the hosts of Busted Open noting that nothing would change, AEW isn’t mentioned under the new ownership. Of course, this makes sense following WWE’s acquisition, but, as noted by MJF, the station promoted that their show wouldn’t differ from the days prior to their association with any promotion.

With WWE and AEW set to go head to head this Sunday, MJF is set to enter the Casino Gauntlet. After losing the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at the “Beach Break” episode of Dynamite last month, the star will aim to earn a future shot at the gold by winning the contract and repeating what he did at All In: Texas last year.
