WWE Reportedly Never Considered Moving Worlds Collide Broadcast

Worlds Collide

Despite backlash before and after, it appears WWE had no intention of moving the YouTube debut of its Worlds Collide show.

The conversation around the recent Worlds Collide show, bringing together WWE, NXT, and AAA talent, largely focus on the company’s attempt to take on AEW’s All Out event. Both shows emanated from in Chicago and began at the same time, a move called out by several people, including Jim Ross. In the end, though, it emerged that the event wouldn’t air live and instead would be shown on YouTube the following Wednesday against Dynamite. However, following the passing of Benjamin “PAC” Satterley on September 27, most wanted the premiere date on YouTube to be moved so it wouldn’t counterprogram the AEW Dynamite that paid tribute to him. Now, an update has emerged on whether WWE considered moving the show.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were never any plans to make the change.

“There was never any indication of even a consideration on moving it, even though privately many in the company said that they hoped it would have been moved.”

-Dave Meltzer

The backlash to the lack of change has been strong, especially among online fans, with two key reasons behind the disappointment. First and foremost, the report mentions many within in WWE wanted the show moved, meaning the company will have gone against the wishes of their talent to pay respect to PAC.

Also, given that the show was set to be uploaded to YouTube, many felt WWE could’ve moved it without issue. Understandably, companies often have to stick to certain time slots with regard to media rights deals, though this likely wouldn’t have been the case with broadcasting via their channel. Regardless, the event was uploaded as planned on Wednesday night.
