Welcome to Wrestle Purists’ live coverage of WWE WrestleMania 38 Night 2 on April 3rd 2022.

Kick-Off Show:

Paul Heyman Interview:

As part of the kick off Paul Heyman is asked whether he’s nervous about the title unification match tonight. He says he’s nervous about having to see the end of Brock Lesnar’s career and legacy.

He says he felt the same at WrestleMania 30 when “he” ended the Undertaker’s streak. He says when that happened he know it was the beginning of the end for the Undertaker and the start of a downward spiral. At the end of the night he and Roman will stand tall and look down at the end of Lesnar’s career.

Interview with Queen Zelina and Carmella:

The Women’s Tag Team Champions are asked about what they think of their opponents, and proceed to give a little trash talk on each of them. Zelina tells Carmella to have some Champagne ready for after the match.

Interview with Austin Theory:

Theory trash talks Pat McAfee, calling him “Fat McAfee” and saying he’ll have to give Theory another apology after he beats him. Theory then says after his match he’ll take a “stupendous” selfie.

Interview with Bobby Lashley:

Lashley is interviewed mid workout, and asked if he can knock Omos down again and beat him. Lashley puts him over as an undefeated monster, but says that’s only motivated him to beat the giant.

PPV:

Triple H Opens The PPV:

After the singing of the American national anthem and a hype video for the show, Triple H makes his way out to the ring. He spends a lot of time taking in the audience before he finally speaks.

He simply thanks the audience for coming, and welcomes everyone to WrestleMania. He leaves his boots and his mic in the ring, symbolizing the end of his in-ring career, the details of which you can read here.

RK-Bro (c) defeated The Street Profits & Alpha Academy (RAW Tag Team Championship):

Randy Orton pinned Chad Gable

After the match The Street Profits give a peace offering of red cups to RK-Bro, and the teams invite Gable Stevenson from the front row to celebrate with them. Gable gets into Stevenson’s face, and receives a suplex for his troubles.

Bobby Lashley defeated Omos:

Lashley goes for the vertical suplex early, but Omos gets out and dominates for much of the match. After trying to fight back a few times, Lashley manages to finally hit it, and after following up with two spears he gets the pin and hands Omos the loss.

Johnny Knoxville defeated Sami Zayn:

Zayn stays in control for most of the match, with Knoxville fighting back with weapons and tricks. Highlights include the giant slap hand, setting off pyro to bring Zayn off the top rope, and using what can only be described as a nut-kicking device. Wee Man and Chris Pontius also came into the ring to help Knoxville throughout the match.

The rest of the Jackass crew comes in and pulls out a giant mouse trap. After hitting Zayn with the nut-kicking device, he has the mouse trap snap on him, pinning his shoulders for Knoxville to get the three count.

Naomi & Sasha Banks defeated Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley, Shayna Baszler & Natalya, Queen Zelina & Carmella (c) (Womens Tag Team Championship):

Sasha Banks pinned Carmella.

Edge defeated AJ Styles:

Styles is distracted by Damian Priest at ringside. The distraction gives Edge time to recover, and he hits a Spear and gets the three count.

After the match, Priest comes in the ring, and for a moment he and Edge have a stare down. The two end up laughing with each other, and each raise their hands in victory and make their way out together.

Sheamus and Ridge Holland defeated The New Day:

Ridge Holland pinned Xavier Woods. The New Day are attacked by Holland and Sheamus as they enter the ring. Sheamus hits Kofi on the outside with the Brogue Kick, and when the ref is distracted by Butch he hits Woods with one too, letting Holland get the three count.

After the match Butch attacks Woods, with Sheamus and Holland needing to pull him off.

Pat McAfee defeated Austin Theory:

McMahon himself comes out to announce Theory’s entrance to the ring, while McAfee has “Seven Nation Army” as his theme. McMahon is sat ringside for the match.

McAfee reversed Theory’s finisher into a roll up for the win.

Vince McMahon defeated Pat McAfee:

After the previous match McAfee calls McMahon out to come into the ring. McMahon teases getting into the ring before eventually doing so. A referee comes out, but before the match can start Theory blindsides McAfee, then the match starts. Both men take turns to beat on McAfee whilst the referee doesn’t call for a DQ and McMahon gets the pin for the victory.

Theory & McMahon are celebrating in the ring as Theory’s music starts to play but it’s cut off by Steve Austin’s music hitting. He comes out and Theory attempts to jump him, but is hit with a stunner. After sharing a beer with McMahon he gives McMahon what might be the funniest stunner of all time. Austin brings McAfee back into the ring to share a beer, and after celebrating a little, he hits McAfee with the Stunner as well.

Roman Reigns (c) defeated Brock Lesnar (c) (WWE & Universal Championship Unification):

During the introductions, Paul Heyman takes the microphone off of the ring announcer and introduces Reigns exactly like he used to do for Lesnar.

In the early stages, Lesnar is distracted by Heyman on the outside & he’s hit with a Spear through the barricade by Reigns. Later on in the match, the referee is knocked down and Reigns uses the opening for a low blow and a belt shot, but he only gets a two count. After a Kimura lock on Reigns, Lesnar goes for the F-5, but Reigns slips out and hits the Spear and gets the three count,
