MJF vs. Kenny Omega Reportedly Originally Planned For AEW Redemption

MJF vs. Kenny Omega was originally set to take place at AEW Redemption.
The July 1 edition of AEW Dynamite saw MJF challenge Kenny Omega to a match at next week’s AEW Dynamite: Beach Break, proposing that Omega can challenge for the title on the condition that, should he lose, he can never challenge for it again. Omega accepted the stipulation, with the match now officially set for July 8.
Fightful Select reports that plans for MJF to defend the title against Omega have been in place for at least three months, although the long-term plan had been for the match to take place at AEW Redemption in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on July 26.
“The plan for Kenny Omega vs. MJF for the AEW World Title has been in effect for well over three months at the very least. Much like other outlets, we’ve heard the long-term plan was for AEW Redemption.”

Regardless of who emerges with the AEW World Championship, Will Ospreay will await the winner at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium on August 30 after defeating Swerve Strickland in the final of this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door last weekend in San Jose, California.
Next week’s AEW Dynamite: Beach Break is also set to see Konosuke Takeshita defend the AEW International Championship against Kyle Fletcher. ‘The Protostar’ was feared to have suffered an injury during this week’s AEW Collision taping, although those concerns have since been eased. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on All Elite Wrestling’s plans for the AEW World Championship as AEW Redemption approaches as soon as we hear more.
